Our
Story
Get to Know Us
At High Prairie School Division, we have heard clearly from families who want to see agriculture meaningfully represented in their children’s learning. In response, HPSD officially launched Always Growing in fall 2025 as a first step toward embedding agriculture into student curriculum. Currently, students at E.W. Pratt High and Prairie River Junior High can earn micro-credentials, CTS credits, and dual credits through our partnership with Olds College while participating in seed planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and marketing fresh produce. Through hands-on learning, students gain real-world experience in modern agriculture and food systems. Food sovereignty is a key pillar of the Always Growing project. The farm makes weekly donations to the High Prairie & District Food Bank Society and the High Prairie Children’s Resource Council. Lettuce grown on site also supports our school salad bars and is available to the public through website sales, strengthening local food access and community resilience. Because our hydroponic vertical farm operates year-round, students in our northern climate can take part in agricultural learning throughout the school year, gaining hands-on experience regardless of the season. HPSD continues to grow agricultural partnerships and expand learning opportunities so students can explore a broad range of pathways connected to agriculture and agri-food careers. None of this would be possible without the extraordinary support of our community. We sincerely thank the Buchanan Family Foundation and the many donors from the High Prairie community for making this initiative possible. Their support goes beyond funding, as they are helping advance agricultural education, community food resilience, and the boundless potential of our students. Through education, we are preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders and food producers, and Always Growing is where that future takes root.
